Sweet Maple Everything

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

If you have a craving for maple….maple donuts…maple candy…maple anything…you have got to get yourself to the Highland Maple Festival, March 12-13 and 19-20.  Its just down the road a bit from the Hummingbird Inn in Goshen, and it is such a pretty drive.  You can take the Sugar Tour around Highland County, and visit any one of a half-dozen sugar camps.  Or head straight for Monterey, where all the fun is centered.  Its for the sweetness in you.

Beautiful Snow Day in Goshen!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Couldn’t let the day go by without sharing the beautiful winter wonderland we have outside the Hummingbird Inn…  It’s been such a mild winter, this was quite a treat…   Only have 4 or 5 inches, but I don’t think it will last long – its just not that cold!  Wish you were here to see it!

A Puzzling Day at the Hummingbird Inn

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

So there we were with an empty table at the Hummingbird Inn, and guests who were just dying to do…..JIGSAW PUZZLES!!

Started out with great enthusiasm, which for Innkeeper Dan lasted about 10 minutes.  The rest of the puzzlers, Dee and Teresa and Innkeeper Patty ( not in this picture )   worked thru the night and the next couple of days, to finish not one, but two 1000 piece puzzles.   So next time you visit the Hummingbird Inn, a Lexington VA area bed and breakfast, and that empty table beckons, rest assured we can find a challenging puzzle for you too!!

Plant and Stay Day

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

This last weekend was Plant and Stay Day at the Hummingbird Inn for Manuel Atallah and Sara Clark, as they got down, but not too dirty planting tulips in the garden.

Each Fall, the Hummingbird Inn, a Lexington area bed and breakfast, located in goshen, VA, invites guests to plant bulbs as part of their stay.  And then in the Spring, they are invited back to see the results of their handywork!  How much fun!

If you missed it this year, make your plans for 2011, and make your mark i the Hummingbird Inn garden, with your own Plant and Stay getaway.

Bulbs, Bulbs and More Bulbs…..

Monday, September 13th, 2010

If it isn’t Fall already, it soon will be.  And for those of you who enjoy your gardens like we do at the Hummingbird Inn, a Lexington VA area bed and breakfast, Fall means one thing….BULBS!

Recognize this?  Its a Fall gardener’s best friend for creating color in Spring.

So we got to thinking.  What if we invited our guests to join us in planting bulbs this Fall.

After much thought, we thought it would be fun to…..

Have our guests bring a bag of bulbs.    or maybe 2.  We got some cool coupons from the The Home Depot Garden Club.

Then they could help plant them,    and we would mark the area they planted so that when Spring came, they could return and see the color they created!     So, here is what we came up with..

Make your reservation for any weekday in September, October or weekday/weekend in November …..bring along your bulbs and your favorite gardening outfit and tools…and lets do some planting!  Your stay at the Hummingbird Inn will be at the reduced rate of $125 per night….and make your return reservation for Spring before you leave, and we will keep the rate of $125 per night for your stay in 2011!

So, lets hear from the gardeners among you!  The grounds at the Hummingbird Inn are looking forward to your visit!  (Don’t delay, as planting space is not unlimited).

Remember Summer

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Off and on the weather is cooling as we exit summer and look forward to another beautiful Shenandoah Valley Fall at the Hummingbird Inn, a Lexington VA area bed and breakfast in Goshen, Va.

So what could you have done this summer?

Enjoyed the outdoor festivals and local music

Or taken a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway

This truck show will not be back next year

Joined us at a Rockbridge Rapids baseball game

Shopped at  the HUGE Green Valley Book Fair in Mt Crawford

Note: Happening again THIS YEAR Oct 9-24 and Nov 26-Dec18

Perhaps a day trip to Monticello

There was the Rockbridge County Fair

And not that far away, the West Virginia State Fair

You do not want to miss the duck slide!
and we could go on and on……

And who would not have enjoyed an evening at Hull’s Drive-in

And then the traditional end of summer, the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Dept Chicken Dinner….no pictures, cause I ate it too fast!!!

But don’t despair.  No need to feel bad.  Its all happening again in 2011 (except the Truck Show that is).  Don’t miss it.  Come join us!
